Latest update on works

Major Works

At a recent meeting with Doug Goldring, the Council's Director of Housing Management, WERA received an update on the ongoing works to the estate's lifts and communal hot water and heating system.

WERA was advised that the works to the estate's lifts should be completed by early November. At that point all planned works will have been completed. There is an expectation that this will address the reliability issues that many of the lifts are currently suffering from but this remains to be seen.

WERA was advised that the first phase of works to the estate's communal heating and hot water system should be completed by early December. WERA had not previously been advised that the works had been split into multiple phases and what these phases would involve. WERA was disappointed to learn that the first phase of works did not include any works to the pumps in the pump rooms, only to certain valves and controls. As the pumps in some blocks have proved to be quite unreliable (the recent outage in Blantyre Tower and adjacent walkways was caused by the failure of a cold water pump) this is of some concern.
